Henry Franklin Winkler in Manhattan New York City on 30 October 1945. Ilse Anna Marie Hadra, his mum, was a housewife and Harry Irving Winkler, his dad dealt in the exportation of lumber. His cousin is an actor Richard Belzer, and he also has the sister Beatrice.
Winkler’s parents were German Jews from Berlin. He and his family moved to the U.S. in 1939 just before the start of the Second World War. He learned at school without being diagnosed for dyslexia and left McBurney School on Manhattan’s Upper West Side in 1963.
He pursued his studies at the Emerson College and received his BA in 1967, and he received MFA, from Yale School of Drama in 1970.
