Muhammad Kutty Panaparambil Ismail is an Indian actor and producer who works predominantly in Malayalam films. He has also appeared in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and English-language productions. In a career spanning five decades, he has appeared in more than 420 films, predominantly in lead roles. He won three National Film Awards, eleven Kerala State Film Awards, and fifteen Filmfare Awards South. The government of India awarded him with the fourth-highest civilian award, Padma Shri in 1998. The Government of Kerala awarded him with Kerala Parbha Award in 2022.
Mammootty made his debut in acting through the Malayalam film Anubhavangal Paalichakal in 1971. His first leading role was in an unreleased film, Devalokam in 1979. He went to Government High School, Kulasekharamangalam, Kottayam for his primary education. He attended Government School Ernakulam. Mammootty attended Maharaj’s College Ernakulam.
