Scott started singing in the church choir when she was six years old. She also sang at local shows, weddings, and church events, starting to hone her singing skills. At the age of eleven, she recorded her first song with her sister Tamika.
Scott attended Tri-Cities High School of Performing Arts and later transferred to Tri-Cities High School in East Point, Georgia. She graduated in 1991.
Career
Scott began singing when she was very young. She started singing in a girls’ group Precise, before she joined Xscape alongside her elder sister. Scott began singing professionally when she joined her elder sister Tamika and Kandi Burruss.
Kandi and Tamika met while in Tri-Cities Performing Arts High School, and they recruited a fourth member, Tamera Coggins. Their time together was short-lived, as the sisters later auditioned for Xscape.
The group released its debut album in 1993 and it peaked at number 17 on US Billboard 200. The album was top 3 on R&B Albums charts and it gave the band the motivation to do more. They released their second album in 1995, featuring four songs.
The album did very well and one of the singles “Off the Hook” was certified platinum in the same year. The band continued releasing songs but by the third album, it had changed such that Scott left the band in 1999.
Scott began her solo career after she appeared on NFL Jamz with the song, “Promises”. She released her debut song in 1999 and by the early 2000, she had ventured more into solo performance. The singer reconnected with Michael Mauldin and signed a contract with Sony Urban.
Unfortunately, Scott did not release her debut album because of label issues. As a result, she left the label and began working on her debut album.
